Deck Project – Sneak Peak

I am so proud of my husband. We decided our spring project would be building a deck. Chad has designed and built it by himself. Pete and I can’t really take any credit because we only help when he needs us. Originally I wanted to make 1 big post when the deck was complete but I can’t wait any longer. I hope you are just as impressed as I am.

Below are some progress pictures for your viewing pleasure.

Before Chad started he staked the area and removed all the plant materials. This included grass, 2 flower beds, and a tree.

Next he determined where the post holes were going. He rented an auger to dig 11 holes 2 feet deep and 10 - 12 inches wide. Unfortunately I don't have a picture of him using the auger but you know what I am talking about if you watch HGTV.

Here is a picture of the holes.

Then Chad poured the concrete in the holes and secured the J-bolts in place.

Once the concrete pillars were in place we worked on the slope of the ground to make sure we would not have any places with standing water later. (I actually helped with this part)

Then Chad sprayed weed killer and laid landscape cloth to prevent anything from growing under the deck.

Chad then installed beams on top of the concrete pillars. This was very time consuming since everything must be level.

Off of the beams he started framing the floor.

This section is framed up and ready for decking boards. Chad is going to finish framing the other section before he begins laying the decking boards. Stayed tuned for more updates.
